Detection, Classification, and Quantification of Nonlinear Distortions in Time-Varying Frequency Response Function Measurements

The class of nonlinear time-varying (NLTV) systems includes all possible and, hence, is difficult to identify. Still, when the nonlinearities are not too strong then, depending on application, a linear model might be sufficient for approximating true response. To quantify approximation error model, detecting and quantifying behavior key importance. In this article, we propose fully automated procedure detecting, classifying, distortions in response, possibly subject trend, specific NLTV odd random phase multisine excitations. result measurement frequency response function together with uncertainty bounds due noise distortions. user only has specify four integer numbers: an upper bound on: 1) degree time-domain polynomial modeling trend; 2) frequency-domain basis function; 3) number hyperbolic-like functions, used output spectrum; 4) quality measure-called degrees freedom (dof)-of variance estimate. Guidelines provided obtaining reasonable values these bounds.
